Johnson County Herb Society Minutes, March 15, 2008Dr. Judy Griffin spoke on aromatherapy and essential oils. Eighteen people
attended. Esther Chambliss announced that the Cleburne Public Library will allow the Herb Society to put a herb garden on the corner at the library. The next meeting is April 12 at Sue Morgan’s house. Joan Leach will demonstrate how to cook with herbs. The May meeting and field trip is at the Lavender Dream Farm in Stephenville. Prepay for lunch ($7) and bring a lawn chair. Highlights from Dr. Judy Griffin’s Talk: For thick mucous, use Sage, especially Sage tea. Also Thyme, and rub Eucalyptus around sinuses. Lemon Grass is unique in that it helps the body generate its own energy. It also helps lymph flow and circulation. Rosemary is good for skin, depression, and hair. Essential Oil of Yarrow is good for skin problems. Thyme kills 1200 toxins in the test tube. Sage and Thyme are good for colds and flu. Clary sage is good for the nervous system. It helps regenerates nerves. Smelling an Essential Oil can change brain chemistry in 1/100th of a second. Your skin detoxes more than your liver does. Methylparaben is a cancer-causing chemical, and it is in most creams and lotions. Lavender is good for kids cough and esophageal reflux. An Essential Oil inside the ear connects to five ganglia. This is an acupuncture point. The Deep Sleep point is where we put earrings. Put lavender there before going to sleep. Lavender, Scented Geranium and Chamomile help stop snoring.
