Announcements by President Esther Chambliss: JCHS was awarded a plaque awarded by Texas Garden Clubs Inc. Ethel Henry was given Lifelong Membership Privileges since she is the member of longest standing. Members are asked to bring commercial packages of garden seeds for the next meeting. These will go to South American countries through the Seeds of Life program. Sue Morgan gave the treasurer’s report. She just received a check from Borders for $64.39 for books sold at the Herb Symposium. The booth at the Master Gardeners Show took in $100 for sales of inventory and $40 for raffle tickets. April Meeting The April 21 meeting will include a trip to the Lone Oak Winery in Burleson. Wear comfortable shoes. Bring a sack lunch. The club will furnish soft drinks. The tour is free. Wine tasting is optional and costs $5. Directions: Go to the Target exit in Burleson, turn East, go past the Exxon. It’s between 917 and 174 on 731. The tour starts at 10 a.m. Do ot come to the library first. Program Emma Sheard of Emma’s Bloomers on Renfro Street in Alvarado presented the program on Plant Propagation. Emma has an Associates Degree in Horticulture, works full time, goes to school, and runs a landscape design company. Recommended books include “Seed Starter” by Maureen Heffernan, and “The Complete Book of Growing Plants from Seeds.” Emma gave tips on the three types of propagation: sexual (from seeds), asexual propagation (dividing plants) and grafting.
