Minutes of Johnson County Herb Society August 22, 2009

Four members and three guests were present. Members were Sue Morgan, Esther Chambliss, Nancy Hagwood and Micki Nellis. Guests were Dr. Monte Swatzell, Burgess Armstrong, and Alden Nellis.

Micki Nellis presented a slide show of the Alaska Botanical Garden, with selected photos from the Alaska Zoo and some Alaska wetlands.

In the business meeting that followed the program, members voted to have another plant sale as next spring’s fundraiser in May, to buy potting soil for those potting plants, and to have a “Club Dig” where a team would go around and dig plants from yards and gardens for those willing to contribute. We will advertise these plants as home grown and acclimated.

At last year’s sale, the flowers went first, followed by herbs and unusual plants. Micki Nellis volunteered their school bus as a seed starter.

Members are asked to keep looking for soup recipes for the next cookbook. Sue Morgan’s Okra soup was a big hit at the meeting.

Esther presented the original of the plaque earned by the club for the cookbook to Micki Nellis.

October’s program will feature Esther Chambliss on Canning.
November’s program will be Sue Morgan and a Herbal Christmas film.
